COACHING SUGGESTIONS

Coaches are permitted & encouraged to join the players on the field during play. Coach them on Passing (this will become a very useful skill when they move up to U11, the field becomes larger and the ability to use your teammates to help get the ball to the other end of the pitch becomes a necessary skill), Checking, Running with the ball and Getting the ball in the net. If
you have a player that is hesitant please encourage the parents to just let them watch a few games, if they are not pressured to play most often they will join in on their own at some point.

 GAME LOCATIONS

All games are played on the Martin Field. A map showing the field locations at Sherman Road is located on our club website (FIELDS > SHERMAN ROAD LAYOUT). The field numbers are also listed on the chain link fence along Gilana Place. Field 1 is closest to the Clubhouse, Field 2
is closest to the road

CONCESSION DUTY

Each team will have a concession duty time slot. This is a mandatory time slot that your teammust fill. When available the schedule is posted on our club website under Schedules.
If you are not on the “fall” schedule, you will be on the “spring” schedule.

CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK

Every coach, assistant coach and team manager will require a criminal records check. Information regarding criminal records checks can be found on the clubs website   For any questions please email risk@cowichansoccer.com.

RESPECT IN SPORT

All coaches are required to take the free respect in sport training provided by BC Soccer.

PLAYER CONDUCT

Please let your players know up front what kind of behaviour is expected of them during a game whether they are on or off the field. If a player intentionally strikes, deliberately kicks or spits at an opponent this player must be substituted and will not be permitted to participate
further during the game. The coach should inform the player as to why and correct these actions. The coaches/referees role is to ensure that the game is played under the “fair play”code.

PLAYER UNIFORMS AND SAFETY

Non-uniform clothing is allowed based on weather conditions, but uniforms must still distinguish teams. Shin guards are mandatory for all players and must be worn under the socks. Jewelry is NOT PERMITTED,  the earrings MUST BE
REMOVED.
As a coach, you are not responsible for their child. If the parent has concession duty, they are still on CVSA property, which is fine.

PLAYER POSITIONS AND PLAY TIME

Rotate children through every position. If you have a child that only wants to play goal, this will limit their development (a goalie needs to know every position on the field to be effective, too!). EQUAL PLAYTIME FOR ALL – NO SCORE KEEPING, this is developmental ONLY. We all play on the same team.NOTE: If a child has not paid, please do not contact them to come and play. If you are unsure about the pending players on your team, please contact your coordinator.
